Cindy Hempy lived in Central Ohio most of her life with a year in Pittsburgh, 5 years in Cincinnati, and 2 1/2 years in the Country of Georgia. Cindy graduated with the first class of the Fisher College of Business in 1994 at The Ohio State University. “That was at age 32! I never would have graduated without my 3-year old son helping me with my homework -- and being a rapt audience of one while I practiced my presentations.”
Prior to graduation she worked as a programmer for ten years at Chemical Abstracts Services. After she worked in the tax field for 25 years at various financial institutions (JPM, PNC, 5/3) and earned her CPA license in 1998.
At age 57, Cindy decided it was time to change the channel and she joined the Peace Corps, then AmeriCorps. “Now, there's no going back! I will spend what years I have left in service to others.” She came to the CRC in July of 2018 as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer.
“I love the CRC because of the staff and the love they show for their community... CRC has shown me how important social services are for the health and well-being of the underprivileged.”
Some Fun Facts about Cindy: “While in High School I was quite active -- Class President, Honor Society, Editor of the school paper among others. I was the first female president of Key Clubs in the State of Ohio and I earned my first of three Varsity letter in men's track. As an adult I have a passion for sailing -- and, yes, storms on Lake Erie get so severe they can flip a 35' boat -- and I hope to soon get back on two wheels (Suzuki, not Schwinn).”
